　　故事讲述在一个威权体制（an authoritarian regime）逐渐瓦解的府邸（the palace）内，一年时间里发生的事情。

　　故事发生在一家名为卢蒙的超级大公司内，一种名为记忆切割术的全新技术正在公司内部进行实验，接受了手术的员工将进行人格分离手术，形成公司人格和日常人格。这项大胆的“平衡工作与生活”的实验受到了质疑。员工马克发现自己身处一个谜团的中心，迫使他面对工作和自我的本质。
